Boise State Broncos vs. Wyoming Cowboys Pick & Prediction NOVEMBER 23rd 2024
Preview and Prediction
On Saturday night, running back Ashton Jeanty and the 12th-ranked Boise State team will be facing off against Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo. in an effort to secure their spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
According to the latest CFP rankings, the Broncos are currently projected as the fourth seed and would receive a first-round bye.
Jeanty, who currently holds the title of the nation's top rusher, played a crucial role in the Broncos' eighth consecutive victory last week against San Jose State. He racked up an impressive 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Maddux Madsen completed 22 of 30 passes for 256 yards and a touchdown.
Despite falling behind 14-0 in the second quarter, the Broncos were able to turn things around and go on a 42-7 run.
Head coach Danielson commented on the team's slow start, saying, "We are down 14-0 and we drop the kickoff and they are on the 2-yard line to make it 21-0. You can't find a way to start a game worse than we did." However, he also praised the team's ability to bounce back and finish the game with a strong performance.
Jeanty's impressive performance also broke the previous Boise State rushing record held by Jay Ajayi since 2014, with a total of 1,893 rushing yards. He also set a new Mountain West record for the most consecutive 100-yard rushing games, surpassing the previous record set in 2016 by former San Diego State running back Donnel Pumphrey.
Coach Danielson gave credit to the team's offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator for their ability to adapt and maintain consistency in both the run and pass game, despite injuries.
The Cowboys, on the other hand, are coming off a 24-10 loss to Colorado State in their annual rivalry game for the Bronze Boot trophy. Quarterback Kaden Anderson completed 13 of 30 passes for 120 yards and also had a rushing touchdown. Running back Jamari Ferrell also had a strong performance with 74 rushing yards on just six carries. However, the team only managed to gain nine first downs and 237 yards of total offense.
First-year coach Jay Sawvel made the decision to elevate Anderson to starting quarterback after the team's 1-7 start, which resulted in a win against New Mexico on Nov. 2.
Sawvel acknowledged the team's struggles this season, saying, "We have not established momentum in our season because of losing close games at home."
Unfortunately, the Cowboys will not be able to qualify for a bowl game this season, but they still have the opportunity to play spoiler against a highly-ranked Boise State team.
Sawvel praised the Broncos, saying, "This is probably the best Mountain West team that I've seen in the five years that I've been in this conference coming here this week." He also acknowledged the challenge of facing a team that is currently on track to make it to the playoff.
